We thought it sounded cool!
Kudos to our very own Angie Brooks for the idea. After several rounds of voting, we landed on HAL. We feel this name captures our collective look to the future and serves as a cheeky nod to a key character in our library.
The Content Sales Planning team relied on a Microsoft Access-based tool called UpDoc since the 1900’s (Mid-1990’s to be exact). While UpDoc served the business well for decades, it was built for a different era and has seen only limited modernization over the last 30 years - with clunky login, slow navigation, frustrating user experience, and lack of integration with enterprise systems. If UpDoc represents the technology of the mid-1990s, HAL represents a modern, connected platform designed for today’s content sales environment built to support the future. Think the difference between Windows 95 vs Claude.
Only the Sales Planning team will have access, but there are reporting capabilities that will be developed and rolled out to broader teams. Keep working with Sales Planning exactly as you do today.
The HAL project team will be hosting roadshow sessions over the coming months.
We’re launching in Domestic territories October 2026, with planned international rollout in 2027.
